The Client:
Singh Stables apparel collection for e-commerce launch
I photographed Singh Stables' apparel collection for their e-commerce launch. Singh Stables is a lifestyle brand founded by Ranjodh "Ron" Singh Dosanjh, built around automotive culture and craftsmanship. The brand's apparel line includes shirts, pants, jackets, hats, and footwear. Ron approached me to create product photography that would reflect the quality of the clothing and the considered identity behind the brand. The project centered on creating images that help online shoppers understand fabric weight, texture, construction, and feel without being able to touch the garments.
The Challenge:
Making fabric and construction tangible through photography
The photography needed to communicate more than silhouettes. Online shoppers cannot examine stitching up close, feel fabric weight, or understand how a garment is constructed by touch. The images had to provide that information while remaining visually inviting. Working from Vancouver, I focused on making the materials feel tangible. The weave and softness of the fabric, the structure of the garments, and the subtle differences between surfaces all needed to remain visible in the final images.
I built the approach around ensuring the garments never appeared flat or lifeless. This becomes especially important with darker tones and black fabrics, which can easily lose dimension and detail. Every seam, logo, finish, and construction detail contains useful information for a potential customer. I carefully positioned and lit each piece so these features could be seen without making the images feel overly technical. The goal was creating a clear view of what customers would be purchasing while reinforcing the care and quality behind the collection.
The Execution:
Lighting that reveals texture without flattening material
Lighting played a central role in giving the clothing depth. Rather than using setups that flattened the fabric, I shaped light to reveal texture, folds, edges, and stitching. Soft tonal transitions preserved the tactile character of the materials while maintaining the consistency required for e-commerce. The approach produced clean and commercially useful imagery that still felt soft, dimensional, and connected to the brand.
Composition and styling that balances clarity with detail
I shot the collection using neutral white backgrounds to eliminate distraction and stabilize color across the full range of garments. Compositions alternated between centered overhead angles, symmetry-led flat arrangements, and tight detail crops. This allowed the images to move from showing overall silhouette clarity to forensic construction detail. For the black garments, I used soft, directional lighting that revealed micro-texture without hotspots and maintained consistent tonality. The styling held structure while avoiding over-staging, so each piece read as well-made rather than propped up.
Detail photography that replaces the in-hand inspection
The detail photography included close-up shots of fabric weave, embroidery edges, seam finishing, hardware, and labels. These images show what customers would inspect if they were holding the garment. I used controlled depth of field for stitch-level sharpness and positioned each detail so it was easy to understand. The brand's identity elements, "What's In Your Stable?" tags, House of Horsepower marks, and logo executions, were photographed with the same attention to legibility and precision.
Minimal retouching that preserves material honesty
I used minimal retouching to preserve the natural qualities of the products. The purpose was not to make the clothing look artificially perfect, but to present it at its best while remaining faithful to its real construction and texture. This allows customers to see the details that communicate value and form a more accurate impression of each garment. Over-smoothing fabric or adjusting surfaces can misrepresent quality, so I kept all finishing light and honest.
The Results:
E-commerce images that communicate both quality and identity
The final collection includes product photos designed for e-commerce use. The images clearly showcase fabric, seams, logos, and construction while retaining the softness and tactile quality of the garments. They function as practical online store images while supporting a brand built around considered taste and automotive culture. The consistent lighting, neutral backgrounds, and color fidelity allow the photos to work across different channels.
As a Vancouver product photographer, I believe apparel photography does not need to choose between providing information and creating feeling. When the images are built around making materials feel tangible and details easy to understand, they communicate both quality and identity. If your clothing is defined by details customers need to see and quality they need to feel, I can help translate those qualities into clear e-commerce imagery.
